Wintering bird surveys
(All)
Wintering bird surveys are most often required for habitats that support populations of migratory species during the winter, although they are also carried out in other areas when a full assessment of the impact upon birds is required, for example with major infrastructure schemes.
Wintering bird surveys can be carried out from November until the end of February in the following year. The techniques used depend on the habitat, though typically the survey area is divided into smaller areas and counts of birds are made for each of these on several occasions over the winter period.
