Bat surveys and bridge lift-out

Our client is demolishing and reconstructing a road bridge (Bridge Street Bridge in central Newport) over the South Wales mainline for Network Rail as part of the Great Western Electrification.

We have carried out a suite of bat surveys of the bridge and surrounding structures and helped our client manage the ecology issues associated with the bridge to meet the construction programme.

The link below is a short video of the bridge ‘lift-out’, where a giant crane was assembled in Newport Station car park. It then lifted the old bridge, which now rests on the ground adjacent to the railway. A new bridge will be built and then lifted back into place, albeit a bit higher above the railway to allow room for the passage of electric trains beneath.
