Thomson Ecology’s Director of Water, Dr Phil Aldous attended the British Water Winter Reception at the House of Lords this week.
The Reception, now in its tenth year, was hosted by the Earl of Selborne, GBE DL FRS, and included talks from Neil Parish MP, Chair of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee, and Chris Loughlin, Chairman of British Water.
The subject of the talks included the condition that the water industry was in when it was privatised in 1989, and how far things have improved and changed due to investment and good customer services, and as the industry heads into the next price review, the response to Jeremy Corbyn’s privatisation ambition. Also discussed was the role of drinking water, and how catchment management in the future will have benefits for both water companies with less energy and treatment needs, and how farmers will apply less nitrate and pesticides.
250 guests attended the event, and comprised member companies, sponsor partners and key industry figures. The event is held to help raise the profile of the UK water industry and, in particular, the industry supply chain, which British Water represents.
