During May 2009, we undertook a project to re-profile a ditch which was to be used as water vole habitat. The works involved excavating a 750m length of ditch to a 1m depth and 1m width with larger “pond” areas. Existing vegetation favoured by water voles was replaced within the ditch area.
After a recent re-visit to check the site’s progress, we are very happy to report that a water vole was seen inhabiting the ditch.
This confirms the subsequent monitoring undertaken by Thomson Ecology which showed that our habitat restoration was a success.
