We have been working with Thomson Ecology who have been helping us reconcile development plans with ecological constraints on a large training site in Bicester, Oxfordshire.
As well as tree felling and work with GCNs, badgers and breeding birds, there have been dormouse habitat suitability surveys, dormouse nest tube surveys and consultations, and licence applications.
The dormouse is protected under The Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 (as amended) and The Conservation of Habitats and Species Regulations 2010. It is illegal to deliberately kill, injure or disturb dormice, or damage or obstruct access to a dormouse breeding or resting place.
Because dormice are a European Protected Species, a licence is required if development works are likely to result in an offence being committed. Works can be carried out in a certain way, and at certain times so to avoid committing an offence. Check our mitigation calendar and survey calendar for details on timings.
