We have undertaken great crested newt (GCN) mitigation works on the Somerset coast, where we have installed temporary amphibian fencing in order to trap amphibians including GCNs (great crested newts).
Due to predicted changes in the coastline caused by the rising of the sea level, wetland is being created to support local wildlife and to help manage the flood risk to the local community.
Some of the temporary amphibian fencing has been installed around ponds which will be in-filled later. We have also undertaken translocation of suitable pond material to a nearby receptor site as well as installing log hibernacula to provide good GCN habitat.
