We have been working with an ecological consultancy to help our client trap and translocate great crested newts (GCNs) from a development in Reigate in Surrey.
The site consists of three large detached houses which are soon to be demolished to make way for a care home.
Following GCN surveys of the area, Thomson Habitats have installed temporary GCN fencing to keep great crested newts out of the area, as well as installing pitfall traps to help in trapping and removing them from the site whilst development works are underway – to avoid their being killed during the development works. By undertaking these mitigation works, our client was able to make progress in compliance with ecology regulations.
