Following our successful delivery of great crested newt mitigation works on this site, we were asked by our client to carry out an extensive suite of enabling works, in order to facilitate their on-site construction works to build 725 new homes in Nethermayne, Basildon.

As part of our works package, we were asked to

  • Undertake extensive mechanical clearance of large trees, dense scrub and vegetation
  • Chip arisings from the de-veg works using a whole tree chipper, with all arisings being taken off site for use as biomass
  • Supply and install tree protection fencing and over 25 bird and bat boxes, including boxes for robins, owls, starlings, and woodpeckers
  • Carry out receptor site grassland maintenance including mowing and collection of arisings to ensure continued suitable habitat for great crested newts and other wildlife

Due to the ecological sensitivities of the site and the tight timeframes, we carried out the vegetation clearance works using tree shears and mulchers. Mechanising the works meant that not only could the works be done more safely, but the tree felling could be carried out more efficiently. This meant that we were able to save our client significant time on their programme, and also ensure minimal disturbance to the wildlife on site.
