2017 saw the growth of our dedicated water team. The team comprises the marine laboratory, marine consultancy, aquatic ecology teams, and, a new water management team.
Freshwater work has grown significantly with projects covering phosphorus load balances, invasive species risk assessments, water and drainage balance assessments, groundwater surface water interactions, and catchment studies involving aquatic macroinvertebrate ecology sampling and surface water quality sampling.
This year the marine laboratory have processed samples from 50 different projects. Analyses have included marine macrobenthic analysis, particle size analysis, zooplankton identification and freshwater sample analysis. Projects have ranged from the intertidal zone to the deep sea, with analyses for the monitoring of Marine Conservation Zones, Marine Protected Areas and Special Areas of Conservation. In addition, we have completed surveys and subsequent sample analysis for environmental assessments to allow dredging and port developments.
Dr Phil Aldous who leads the water team says, “It’s been great pulling together the various areas of expertise into one water team. It’s been a busy year and we are looking forward to supporting our clients in 2018, and growing the range of services that we offer.”
