Thomson Ecology, the UK’s leading ecology specialist has opened its new state of the art office and laboratory facilities in Letchworth Garden City with local MP Oliver Heald QC joining CEO, Nancy Thomson, to declare the new premises officially open.
Visitors were shown around the new building and were able to see the range of work that Thomson Ecology undertakes for public and private sector organisations across the UK, including demonstrations of marine and terrestrial surveying, a chance to look at some of the 90,000 plus marine reference specimens stored at the site and an opportunity to see some of the high tech equipment used for data capture and mapping. The site brings together the disciplines of marine ecology, previously in other premises in Letchworth, and terrestrial and freshwater ecology to become a biodiversity hub for the region. The facility will eventually house up to 100 staff.
Nancy Thomson, CEO of Thomson Ecology said: “We were delighted that Oliver Heald was able to join us for our official opening. Together with guests including the Letchworth Heritage Foundation, Leader of the Council and the Chamber of Commerce, we were able to showcase the whole range of work we are involved with for our clients and also show people the expertise we are able to offer from our scientific staff across the company.
”We hope to really become part of the local community in Letchworth, creating jobs, getting involved with local schools and helping to keep the economy in this area strong.”
