We’re thrilled to announce Gregor Neeve has joined Thomson Environmental Consultants as Associate Director for Nature Markets.
Gregor has 15 years of experience across the private and public sectors, specialising in creating strategic solutions to support species conversation and previously worked as a principal advisor at Natural England.
His knowledge and experience in Biodiversity Net Gain and Nutrient Neutrality will be extremely valuable in enhancing our internal processes and bringing our clients more efficient solutions.
In particular, Gregor will support us in aligning our services with the government’s recently introduced Nature Markets Framework, which sets out the opportunities to address the nature and climate crises by harnessing investment from high-integrity nature markets such as Biodiversity Net Gain, Nutrient Neutrality and Carbon offsetting.
We’re excited to bring his expertise in BNG requirements and mitigation advice on board. Find out more about Gregor’s responsibilities and goals below.
Expanding our services – Biodiversity Net Gain, nutrient neutrality and carbon offsetting
Gregor’s primary responsibility is to lead on expanding our Biodiversity Net Gain and nutrient neutrality services to create an end-to-end solution for our clients. Our services will provide clients with all necessary steps, from an initial assessment to on-site and off-site mitigation advice and implementation.
Gregor will also lead the development of our carbon offsetting service, which aims to support developers across various sectors to meet their corporate requirements and reduce impacts to the climate.
Biodiversity Net Gain requires all developments in England to ensure there is at least a 10% improvement in biodiversity value as a result of the development. Nutrient neutrality is an approach to ensure developments don’t add to the pollution already experienced at our most protected sites. Carbon offsetting is a critical tool to help individuals and companies reduce their impact on climate change. Collectively these are all considered ‘nature markets’, and we will offer advisory and mitigation services for each..
Biodiversity Net Gain
Our enhanced end-to-end biodiversity solutions aim to help clients maximise their on-site biodiversity value and reduce the need for off-site options, which can be challenging to find.
If off-site biodiversity units are required, Thomson can advise on options to secure them. This will involve our team acting as agents to match developers to unit providers. Biodiversity units can be purchased as a last resort if developers cannot achieve all of their Biodiversity Net Gain on-site.
Thomson Environmental Consultants can also undertake practical solutions to create and manage biodiversity gain sites and habitats. Through all of our nature market offerings, we can help our clients achieve their sustainability goals and requirements faster.
Supporting our business growth goals as a leading environmental consultancy
Gregor will work with our executive and senior leadership teams to define a vision, mission, goals, and associated business plan to grow our role in Nature Markets.
Ultimately, Gregor’s role will serve as a mechanism to bring to bear all of Thomson Environmental Consultant’s expertise to save time and simplify the process for its clients. Thomson offers one service provider for all steps in the process of Biodiversity Net Gain, Nutrient Neutrality and Carbon offsetting.
We are already expanding our service offer around BNG and will continue to do so through the year, bringing nutrients and carbon into the mix as well.
Gregor is a sector lead when it comes to Nature Markets and is supporting the production of underpinning British Standard Institution (BSI) standards commissioned by the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).
How Gregor’s role will bring faster and simpler solutions for our clients
Thomson has for some years had the diverse skills and expertise to guide clients through what can be a complicated process relating to ecology, BNG and wider nature markets.
This includes terrestrial and freshwater ecologists who undertake specialist habitat surveys and BNG calculations, habitat contractors who design, implement and manage BNG habitats, and GIS specialists who enable robust recording and monitoring.
Gregor’s role will help bring these functions together so our clients know they can use one provider to take them through the necessary steps, saving time, simplifying the process and improving accountability and quality of work.
Hear from Gregor about his new role:
“I am hugely excited to join Thomson Environmental Consultants and to be given the chance to develop this area of work in particular. I have recently worked in the public sector, advising the Government and designing, developing and implementing schemes to generate long-term funding for nature projects.
“I now have the opportunity to take this experience and apply it in new ways and hope to be able to leave a legacy of projects that will benefit both the natural environment and the people who depend on and enjoy it.”
