At Thomson Ecology we are helping our client who is working with a large developer, on a new leisure centre in Hampshire.
The leisure centre development is to be built on an area of open parkland. Features will include an eight metre high climbing wall, three dance studios, a fitness gym, a large sports hall which will be used for a variety of activities, a coffee shop and a crèche. There will also be a competition size pool, complete with spectator seating, a teaching pool with a fun and therapy element, and a training tank for the more serious swimmers.
A variety of ecology surveys have been carried out, for badgers, bats, and reptiles. Sister company, Thomson Habitats, has also been involved, clearing vegetation, whilst ecology surveyors have supplied watching briefs, supervising the work from an ecology perspective.
So far a bat roost, a grass snake, and toads and frogs have been found. A bird nest was identified and protected. All work has been done whilst carefully avoiding tree roots to avoid any damage to trees.
